About Green-Young-Cowell-Dahl Family
This website is centered around the families of Henry Hugh Green and Lillie Belle (Young) Green, Leroy Frank Cowell and Caroline Miller (Cowell) Messenger, and John Leonard Dahl and Eileen Hazel Fitzgerald. Of course there are many families that branch off of these families, and we’ll try to keep up with everyone. There are still a lot of blanks to fill in - people, births, deaths, marriages, biographical notes, etc. Please take a look and send me any information I can add. Also photos! Your pictures, and pictures of your ancestors (scans at 300 dpi at least, 600 would be better). Also pass the word to others. I’ve more than once gotten critical information from relatives who learned about this family tree from others.

I update the website periodically, as time allows, so check back frequently.

All of the headings above have drop-down lists with sub-menus. Perhaps the best way to get started is to click on "Home" and then check out "site map". You can also see your relationship to everyone here by clicking on "People", then "Relationships".

I've relied largely on information I was able to gather directly from family members (notably, on the Green-Young side the research by Darla Robertson St. John, Janiece Green, Tarleton Rutledge, Michael Cook, Robert Stevens, Stephen Rice, among many others, and family records, memories and photos from Joy Green, Sue (Green) Nelson, Zane Turley, Ida Mae (Turley) Blackburn and others; on the Cowell (and Messenger/Miller) side mostly Myron Cowell, Rhoda Messenger, and a few others, and John and Eileen Dahl on the Dahl side. I've also referred to other existing genealogies to point me in the right direction. Many are well-documented, others not at all, so I have had to chase down a lot of documentation. In many cases I have had to throw out large sections of family trees because they relied on a questionable relationship that I could not document. Most recently, for example, I had to remove the link, from a well-respected researcher, showing Richard Duckett as the son of William Duckett of England (whose line is descended from royalty) because I discovered documentary evidence proving this link to be impossible. I have tried to be meticulous about documenting all relationships where there might have been some doubt. There are still some entries where I’d like to do more research, though. Any help is always appreciated.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
